my free will horoscope horoscope for the coming week

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20):

"The real secret of magic is that the world is made of words," said the sage Terence McKenna, "and that if you know the words that the world is made of, you can make of it whatever you wish." I'd go even further and say that you can actually shape your world through your use of language. Do you really want to live amidst infertile chaos where nothing makes sense and no one really loves anyone? Then speak with unconscious carelessness, expressing yourself lazily. Or would you prefer to live in a realm that's rich with meaning and beauty and interesting mystery? Then be discerning and creative in how you speak, primed to name the novel truths that are always being born right in front of your eyes. Of course you always have the power to create heaven or hell through the words you choose, Pisces, but right now is a potential turning point when you could form good new habits.

for better or worse

Is it really dumb to cry at a comic strip wedding?

september is sneaking up

My friend Michael (a.k.a. Beige Alert) just succeeded in making me feel old. (again) There aren't many good sitcoms any more. I guess I should be glad I don't have time to watch much tv.

Truepenny, also in Live Journal, has managed to start me on a spiral. Her rants about Dr. Rabkin have tempted me to Take a Class(tm) which generally happens right before classes start. Since I live and work in a university town and have done so since 1973 my new year begins in late August and I never grew out of the "new school year" twitches. However, I have generally not managed to carry through...as I have always been a half assed student and tend toward the kaliedoscopic inmy interests....

...do I do the Elizabethans or start studying semantics or just work on journaling???? and what about the radio station? not to mention that I am still the student supervisor/stacks manager in the library...

...at least I'm not depressed.

joy

listening to: "The Horsetamer's Daughter" as done by Julia Ecklar.

more on books...a NEW Madeleine L'Engle, Joys of Love. I discovered it at Worldcon. It was written in the 40's as a gift for her granddaughters and they have now shared it with us. I just finished Hell and Earth in the Prometheus Age series by Elizabeth Bear. Also, Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Thank you, John, for recommending it.

I need to read TC's newest story. (you can buy his book at www.tomtrumpinski.com). Charlie mentioned morning pages in one of his posts yesterday. I have started reviving the blogs...

books

The steps I take to avoid being left bookless would shame a hardened and devious alcoholic. I always have some sort of little book stashed in my handbag, just in case. And another little book for good measure. Jane Shilling London times online 8/18/2008

twitting

I don't twitter...it may be good for some folks, but I don't have time. Slept till 11 this morning and I will be home by myself until later...so I am enjoying it. Emily Lloyd posted a link to CCR's "midnight special", which is as inspiring as a gospel song. I'm going to got to Curves, lunch, come home and clean the kitchen and hit the pool. Then I may journal at a random coffee shop and come home and watch tv. If I come across anything exciting I will jot it down for later.

I have to recharge before school starts...my body is seriously protesting.

eureka! earthquake pills!

Actually, this post has nothing to do with earthquakes but I just read the following in Whatever and it just gave me one more push in the direction of blogging again:

I was speaking with award-winning writer Mary Robinette Kowal today, and she noted that today is the “blogoversary” of her site, which she started four years ago (so go over and tell her congratulations). I mentioned to her that I remember going to visit her blog after I had met her (which was two years ago), and then said to her:

“I actually get annoyed these days when I meet smart and interesting people and then they don’t have a blog.”

Because, frankly, if you are smart and interesting, why aren’t you blogging? --John Scalzi

This summer has been a bit hellish, but fall is almost here and I am re-entering the blogosphere (I may also look for a class on the Elizabethans, thanks to Elizabeth Bear's Promethean Age series, but maybe not)
